Connivingly beating Onside Academy prepared Queens Park Rangers U23s for their encounter with Cardiff City U23s this afternoon. Having won their previous four matches the Rs were confident going into this affair, Charlie Kelman scoring goals for fun so far this campaign. The visitors have not played since their derby day win at Swansea. Finding the net then was Jai Semenyo, Chanka Zimba and future first team star Isaak Davies. Former Martyr Lewis Webb having a poor day at the office in the Swans net.
Having arrived in West London late due to travel issues, kick off was delayed to allow Cardiff City to warm up. The guest started the game strongly giving Paul Furlong something to think about early on. Creating the first chance of the afternoon. First team hopeful Tom Sang made the most of a R’s error, but could only find the crossbar. Leaving the host defenders in a panic as they lumped the ball long. Pressure on QPR continued as Cardiff got closer, Bluebirds barging themselves to reach every loose ball first. Breaking the deadlock in the twentieth minute was a deserved goal for the visitors. Penalty converted from James Crole. QPR managed to pull one back in the thirty-eighth minute, on form Kelman getting on the scoresheet once more. Hitting home a dying effort put in from Innocent.
With the R’s growing confidence, the referee blew his whistle. Bringing the game to a stop. At the break it was an unpleasant atmosphere amongst home fans, many accepting the poor showing their club as put on. Took until the late periods of the half to wake up. When play resumed Queens Park Rangers looked a new team. Quickly getting in possession, handing Kelman another chance to score. Which he did. However, the goal was removed due to Kargbo fouling the keeper as the chance played out. Score stays level at Harlington. After this the home side did not create anything for the remainder of the game. Cardiff City rose again, and took full control of the fixture. Murphy Mahoney really being put to work for fourth five minutes. Denham ended up giving the Welsh side the lead they earnt, capitalizing on a defensive error. Keeper left helpless. Finishing off scoring for this match was James Connolly. Putting the ball in the net for Cardiff’s third, and final goal.
In conclusion it was a shocking R’s showing. Simply not good enough. Questions need to be asked about what’s going wrong, and why the standard has fallen recently. The decline is sharp. Lets hope the first team fair better against Huddersfield tomorrow.
