Crippling Cricklewood!

On Tuesday night Cricklewood Wanderers took on Deportivo Galicia in the Middlesex County cup. The fixture being played at Vale farm, home of Wembley fc. Only a short distance to the Wembley stadium. England’s iconic arch being visible as you approach. Going into this game, the visitors drew with Wallingford Town. Scoring three goals that afternoon. In a six-goal thriller. Cricklewood Wanderers won their previous encounter.

The visitors got this game underway with a very early chance. Fizzling a ball across the box, without anyone on the end of it. Two free kicks would have doubled their lead. If they were able to apply a finishing touch. Which sparked their host alive, counter attacking to have their first opportunity. Charging at goal they stole the ball from the keepers’ feet. Before putting it wide with miles of space. Pressing once more they won a corner. Delivered into the area, but batted away by the guest. Deportivo took the lead to open scoring. Having padded the home side’s goal. They scored from the centre of the box, shot quickly slotted home after receiving a last-ditch pass. Third time around they scored from a free kick. Smart strike by the visitor’s number 8 to rifle it into the net. Right before the break Deportivo broke away. Picking up the ball in the middle they bombed it out wide. The winger seeing his cross blocked, and coming out for a throw. Which was the last action of the half.

Going into half time the visitors were well deserving of their lead. Cricklewood yet to show any flair. A real non-league affair. When play resumed it was Deportivo first to score. Working the ball from a corner, they crossed it in. Header flying over the keeper and into the net. Furthering the gap between the two teams. Ending this match as a contest. However, the host were the better of the two in the second forty-five. Having two chances come close. One dragged shot almost being their lifeline back into the fixture. Cricklewood managed to pull one goal back before full time, running through the guest defence.

In conclusion Deportivo Galicia proved to be a class above their opponents. Cricklewood never managing to play as a team for longer than a few minutes. Creating few chances, with large periods of not going forward.
