Cool Colchester!

Before heading to the first team match this evening, I visited the R’s training ground to see the under twenty-three side take on Colchester United U23s. This game was a professional development league two south fixture, giving youngsters a chance to impress. In their last league encounter the West London side lost away to Millwall, with Brandon Aveiro getting our only goal. Potential first team star Duke- McKenna featuring in that event. Hopefully we will see him getting minutes under Mark Warburton. Footballs most hated, John Terry was in attendance this afternoon. Disgusting to see after previous events. Not welcome at the club, or at any of our games.

Starting evenly both sides looked to settle into the game. Colchester United had the better of the chances in the opening period, putting the R’s keeper under pressure. But the young shot stopper did well to maintain a draw. Breaking the deadlock was our visitors as they took the lead. The player drove the ball in from wide before passing across the box. Finished following a mix up amongst players. Colchester ahead. Not long after the visitors managed to get a second, Chay Cooper scorer. A low hit shot found its way into the corner of the net.

At the break the host were losing to a much better side. Defensively under pressure time and time again, without support from those further up the field. Centre backs looked in trouble a few stints. In the second half there was not much action. QPR tried to make a way back into the game, but struggled to get the ball up the field. When they did, they relied on wide players to deliver crosses. Passing and shooting was slacking this match. Cant see many making their debuts for the first team.

In conclusion it was a dire game of football. Colchester took the lead and then resorted to sitting on it. The Rs under 23s squad lacked its usual flair, and players worth keeping an eye out for. Charlie Owens being the only name of note. Also at the game was Les Ferdinand, who kindly took a moment to have a photo with me.
