Close call in cold contest!

As winter conditions came into full effect. Harrow Borough hosted Hartley Witney at Earlsmead Stadium. A southern league fixture, bringing the teams together. After the initial date was postponed back in august. Leaving supporters in undesirable temperatures in South Harrow tonight.

Starting this evening’s affair. The guest got the first chance. Coming down the right wing, with a long ball forward. Headed away by a Harrow defender. Putting the ball out for a throw. Which the guest built an attack from, ending up with the same outcome. Before the home side saw an opportunity to avert danger with a boot. Shortly followed by a second chance for the visitors. This time advancing down the opposite wing, where Keegan Bloom confidently dealt with his man. Not long later. Hartley Witney had their third go of the tie. Venturing forward, the visitors put pressure on the Borough back line. But Preddie was perfectly place to close down the forward. Crossing from deep in the final third, the guest got space after beating the fullback for speed. Safe hands keeping it out, by Jacob Knightsbridge in the Reds goal. Having their opening opportunity. Harrow had a chance, a low effort into the defender. Before they went onto break the deadlock. Billy Leonard scoring a simple shot. Converting from close range, coming in to an area avoided by the travelling team. Looking to increase their lead. The home side saw shot after shot see out the first half.

Getting the second period underway. Harrow came out the better, breaking away for the opening chance. Which ended up being blocked quickly by the fullback. Counter attacking from this opportunity. The guest got into the final third, making use of the empty space out wide, looking to send in a cross. Whacked away by the host defenders. Darting the ball up the field. Finding a back-and-forth battle between players. Neither able to make any good use out of it. Switching to more expansive system, Harrow used their youthful speed close to the touchline. Crossing from further distance in hopes of finding a forward. Proving to be unsuccessful as the teams saw out the period. Montel Brown managing to have a final chance before the game came to a close.
