Chertsey play like champions!

For their final pre-season fixture. Harrow Borough took on Chertsey Town, at Alwyns Lane. In front of a larger crowd than previous visits. The home club seeing a growth in attendance, as two hundred sixty-two people came out to this evening’s affair.


Tonight’s match got underway with an impressively quick tempo. Harrow coming flying out from kick off. Making early use of the ball, stunning their opposition. Who had the first chance of the game. Comfortably cleared by the Borough back line. Shortly followed by the visitors opening their account, as their shot flew wide of the post. Not long later proceeded by a corner. Which was sent towards goal by Billy Leonard, making its way through the box, going out for a throw. Breaking the deadlock on twelves minutes. Josh Williams found the back of the net. Low shot into the comer from close range. Looking to double their lead. The guest saw George Moore making a darting run. Former reds shot stopper Nick Jupp pulling out a fine save, giving away a corner. Sending a shot over the bar. Chertsey were back in the borough final third. Unable to dip the ball, aiming to sneak under the bar. Levelling the score on twenty-one minutes they had their goal. Penalty put away by Murphy after debates of a foul arose. Up the other end, Harrow had their own appeal, only coming out with back-to-back corners. Fantastic footwork found space for a brilliant block as the borough batted away a launched ball. Despite heavy pressure from the host, who seem to be formidable fighters. Shining as he stood between the sticks. Jacob Knightsbridge made save after save, rewarded with cheers and applause. Both sets of supporters acknowledging the marvellous movement by the on-loan West Ham wonderkid. Handballing in the box, the home side were fortunate to not give away a penalty. Ball being booted away by Jupp before the referee got make the right call. However, justice was served on forty-five minutes. James Ewington converting high into the goal from the spot. Putting the guest ahead.


Starting the second period. The quick paced nature of the game continued. Chertsey won an early corner, coming to nothing. Before Harrow had the opening opportunity of note. Shortly followed by a second, when Josh Williams missed an easy finish. George Moore’s cross skimming across the line and out for a goal kick. Coming close to their second the host whipped in a delivery. Attackers unable to make contact with the ball. Counter attacking effectively, the score line was even once more. Finding the net at the far post. Trying to take their margin further Chertsey were on the front foot. A Harrow head averting danger, as time ran out. Running towards his own goal. The host nearly handed their opposite numbers a gift. Managing to get a gap at the last second, lumping a long ball away. Approaching the end, Chertsey had another go. Lofted pass perfectly placed for a wayward final product. From a free kick Harrow went searching for a third. Resulting in a goal kick, thanks to no intelligent runs into the area. Marching into the box Moore was prevented by a lunging tackle. Followed by a faint touch giving the home side a winner.
