Captain fantastic!

With Christmas coming up league fixtures handed Queens Park Rangers Women an away trip to Norwich City. Making the long journey to East Anglia the Rs are on poor form, having lost their previous two outings. Defeats to Billericay and Portsmouth in cup competitions. Our host this afternoon has recovered from their unfortunate start to the campaign. Now only three points from safety going into the game. Their last league match saw them suffer a heavy defeat to Hashtag united on the road, who we face next Sunday.

From kick off it was Norwich who had the first chance of the game. Symonds got a great opportunity within three minutes, but she sent her shot wide of the goal. Two minutes later the visitors broke the deadlock. Brogan Moore sent a fantastic effort goal bound, beating the keeper with a slotted finish into the net. Pure accuracy to get it past the diving Bryony Williams. Coming close to an equaliser Drake had a shot go over on the fourteenth minute. After a period under pressure QPR women got a second, Erin Pope the scorer twenty-five minutes in. A corner was delivered into the box before finding its way to the midfielder planted on the edge. Incredible hit to double the lead, one of the best strikes you’ll see for a very long time. Getting near to a third the guest had hit the post before half time.

QPR were ahead in East Anglia at the break. Goals from Moore and Pope separating the two sides. Larkin doing well to keep the score down at the heart of the Norwich defence, having played unbelievably in the opening forty-five minutes. Starting the second period much better than they ended the first, the host were almost finding ways back into the fixture. Fuller having a chance fifty-eight minutes in. Shockingly, the best performance in the initial exchanges of the second half was taken off. Questionable choice by the home team’s management. Still pushing for their first goal of the game Norwich put Mya at work seventy minutes in. The young keeper held firm under barrage of attempts at her goal, proving why she deserves to be in the team. Match officials awarded the East Anglia outfit a penalty seventy-three minutes in, which they converted. Scoring a moment after making her way onto the pitch was Snelling. Following this goal, the affair became more intense. QPR desperate to not let it slip so late on. Hitting the target with five minutes to go, they almost got a third.

In conclusion the R’s left the nest with all three points. Much needed after not playing in the league for a while, due to cup competitions taking president. Special mention to captain and club legend Vicky Grieves for her inspirational performance this afternoon. Definitely a role model for younger girls who are trying to make it in the game.
