Back in cup action Queens Park Rangers Women continued their break from league matches. Kicking off at the earlier time of quarter past one we welcomed Bromley Ladies to Hanwell Town, hopeful of progressing to the next round of the FA Cup. Having beaten Caversham United in the previous outing. Scoring four goals that afternoon. Our visitors knocked Hastings United out to earn this match, in front of a record-breaking crowd which totalled 536 supporters. All packed into their Hayes Lane home.
This fixture began fairly evenly. Both teams looked up for the cup. Keeping the ball well, and not allowing the other a chance at goal. Perfectly matched in the opening five minutes. Terrific turn from Alice Curr gave her space to break the deadlock. Amazing hit from the player who smashed it into the net, what a hit it was to get the first goal. Exactly the start the R’s wanted eight minutes in. It only took two more minutes for the lead to double. Skipper Vicky Grieves gets the second of the afternoon, tapping in from a corner. Guest keeper left stationary as the effort flew in at the near post. Bromley woke up following the two goals, holding the host out for a period of time. But QPR Women were still on top. Thirty-five minutes in a third goal came, Melanie Hall on the scoresheet now. Taking in a cross from Alice Curr before finding the top left corner from inside the box.
At the break QPR were cruising. Bromley out of the FA cup soon after it kicked off, nothing created from our visitors. Completely brushed aside. The fourth goal came in the fiftieth minute. Ellie Searle added her name to the scorers list, as she ended off a great move by the team. Well deserving after her brilliant performance this game. QPR’s fifth, and Alice Currs second goal only took three minutes to come. Slotting past a rushing keeper. Having been fouled in the box Melanie Hall got herself a penalty. A challenge which should have led to a booking. Converting her second, she put the ball into the net with ease. The home side now six goals up. Another incredible piece of play from Alice got herself a hat-trick, and the teams seventh. Only fifty-seven minutes in. Finished from close range. With the tie well and truly over QPR made a triple sub. Next to find the net was Brogan Moore, scoring a free kick from thirty yards out. Rifling into the top left corner. Would you believe it, but the score line has eight nil. Sixty-four minutes in. Not long later a nineth went in, also getting a hat-trick was Melanie Hall. Getting her third on the seventieth minute. Substitute Jo Blodgett set Ellie Searle on her way, allowing her to slide it across to Hall for the end product. Goal scoring didn’t stop there. Hall went on to get a fourth seventy-seven minutes in. Error from a free kick landing to Erin Pope, who perfectly picked up the player through on goal. Lobbing the keeper in the process. As we approached full time Brogan Moore got a second, to cap of the events for this afternoon. Eighty-four minutes in the young Scottish international hit the ball high in to net. Well out of reach for the goalie.
In conclusion QPR Women surprised everyone. Including the most optimistic fans, who would not have predicted this before a ball was kicked. Bromley severely let themselves down. To an embarrassing level. Onto the net round of the cup!
