Celebrations from Harrow Borough’s FA Cup victory did not last forever, meaning it was time to prepare for another match day. This afternoon’s fixture took place at the Den between Denham united ladies and Millwall Lionesses. Two clubs that share a ground name. Meeting in the London South East Regional Women’s football league both sides looked for vital points come full time. Last time out the host beat Worthing, in a match that saw seven goals fly into the nets. Today visitors also gained points in their last encounter as they beat Whyteleafe.
A Denham united free kick was the first piece of action in this game, saved by Wiggins in the lionesses net. Going up the other end minutes later was Emily Stanley whose effort went wide of the post. Chloe Burr and Lucy Bolitho combined well in the thirteenth minute to put pressure on their host. In the twenty second minute Millwall were awarded a penalty. Scoring from the spot was Maisie Joyce to make it one nil. Again, Chloe Burr broke away, this time finding the net. Ball came in from Charlotte Lynch before setting up the opportunity.
At half time Millwall were ahead. Having looked stronger as a team, and created good passages of play. Defensively strong at the back allowing them to keep a clean sheet so far. Into the second half Lucy Bolitho was back taking her chances, handing her team a corner early in the period. The visitors almost increased their lead as Chloe Burr had a shot just fizz over the bar in the fifty first minute. Would have been her second. Denham United look out of the game. However, the home side managed to grab a goal back with twenty-two minutes to go. Cross headed in from close range. Unfortunately, that’s all they were able to do.
In conclusion this match was a Millwall dominated event. Denham seem to have a lot of work to do if they want to win games, or even stay in the division. Hard road ahead for the West London side.
