Brilliant Bees at Bedfont!

High flying Brentford Women hosted Leatherhead Women today at Bedfont Sports. Attracting a sizeable crowd to the ground, with other local matches postponed due to the weather. For a league fixture between the two teams.


Starting this afternoon’s affair. A leatherhead throws in after an early bee’s chance. Down the right-hand side, the ball bobbled between players. Shortly followed by a goal kick. Having kept the pressure up. Counter attacking Leatherhead correctly placed a forward pass, picking out an advancing attacker. Ended with great defending to divert their opening opportunity. Trying something similar. The host smacked the ball into the box. Putting in back-to-back crosses. Brentford built on their initial domination. Concern quickly arose when a head injury occurred. Taking the lead, the home side had scored, converting from a corner. A player applied a final touch. A simple shot was the next chance. Coming just inside the box, rolling relaxingly into the keepers’ hands. Dropping in a delivery Afiya Johnson opened up space. Saved by the shot stopper. Up the other end, the tricky twenty-eight tore into the final third. Flapping an effort high and wide. Timing a through ball terrifically Sophie troth tapped her teammate in on goal. Getting caught offside. Working their way into the game. Leatherhead had a solid spell of possession, unable to put anything into an attacking area. Curling a creative pass, the guest could have scored. If not for the smart decision making by the bees shot stopper. Doubling the tally. An excellent strike from Kirsty Matthews managed to go in. Before Chloe Loggie added the third, tapping in from close range. After a bad touch by the centre back. A brilliant effort from the visitor’s player flew in, over the keeper’s head, from distance.


Getting the second half underway. Brentford bombed into the box. Winning a corner, for their early efforts. Reacting well. Leatherhead worked further up the field, finding a free kick, cleared away by the bee’s defender. Having an attempt at goal from distance. Scoring a second, the Brentford keeper spilt the ball, bouncing to an opposition. Tapping in from close range. As the home side did for their third. Launching a long ball. Brentford beat the back line, coming close, kept out by last minute defending. finding a fourth the host sent in a kick from the penalty spot. Kirsty Matthews the taker. Maintaining their fine showing, a superb sideways movement managed to create a Brentford chance. leading to a fifth, Brentford found the net. staying high they pressured to pick up possession to put their chance away. Second spot kick of the game. This time taken by Chloe Loggie. Holding play honourably. Brentford bottled a chance right in front of goal. Sneaking in a sixth, a superb turn from Sophie troth. Well worked team play to perfect the opportunity.
