Better than score suggest!

Queens Park Rangers women were back on the road this Sunday afternoon. Making the journey to Essex, as they visited Billericay Town. The fixture taking place at their New Lodge home. Going into this game, the visitors were robbed of two points. Enfield being handed a goal for a shot which did not cross the line. However, the home side have been unbeaten in their last five matches. Leaving them second in the league. When the teams last met, today’s host won the tie. Completing a perfect record for trips to the Powerday Stadium.

Within twenty-four seconds Billericay had the lead. Picking up on a mistake by the R’s back line, they found space for Zoe Rushden to give them the lead. Replying quickly the score was level on six minutes. Ellie Searle finding the net for the visitors. Having opened up a gap on the flank, for her to run into. Before firing a shot across goal. Clearing a chance to prevent a third in under ten minutes QPR got the ball away. After Shannan delivered into the box, which was crowded with red shirts. Zoe Rushden fired her second attempt over the bar on sixteen minutes. Up the other end, a strong tackle prevented the R’s taking a lead. In what proved to be an end-to-end affair, the home side could have been in front. Shannan seeing her effort go just wide. Following an impressive piece of build-up play by her teammates. Trying another cross Billericay got ahead. Prolific Rushden finishing from close range on twenty-eight minutes. As we entered the final ten minutes, QPR had a chance to equalise. An open goal appeared as Melanie Hall could only scuff a shot. Amongst calls for offside, as a result of the linesman flagging.

At the break the visitors had performed really well. Showing great fight, and determination against a team top of the league. Who are fighting for the title in the final run of games. When play resumed, it was the guest who had the first chance. The host keeper making a last ditch save to stop them scoring. Giving away a goal kick, Billericay were fortunate not to concede on sixty-two minutes. High pressing QPR really challenging their opponents. When they regained control, Jay put an effort over the bar. Making the most from a whipped in free kick. Minutes before a third was added. Ball coming in from wide, was met by Sam Pittuck in the area. Leaving the West London side two behind with twenty minutes to go. Things got worse eight minutes later, as the host added a fourth. Shooting from distance Ellie put a powerful effort past Katie McLean. Ending the match as a contest in Essex.

In conclusion the score line faltered the host. A fair and even match going into half time, falling apart when the teams reappeared. Despite Ellen Wardlaw’s early opportunity in the second forty-five minutes. Overall, a valiant effort. Supporters can return to London proud of their team.
