Battles in bibs!

For this Saturdays match up. Shepherds Bush hosted Kensington Dragons at Rectory Park, home of Middlesex Football Association. A west London derby day affair in the Middlesex premier league. In front of under twenty people in cold conditions. Interestingly, the away team opting to play in Bibs. Avoiding a colour clash.

Starting this afternoon’s affair. Shepherds Bush had a spell of possession. Dealt with delightfully by the opposition, who counter attacked to win a throw in. Switching the play. The host centre half made a marvellous pass, lifting his team further up the field. Getting on the ball once more. He used his strength to carry play into the centre circle. Finding a teammate, which squandered the opportunity. Darting towards the area. Kensington Dragons attacked at speed. Stopped as they stepped in for a shot, as a strong challenge from the fullback kicked away the danger. Continuing his fine performance. The centre back prevented chance after chance. Shielding his area, whilst opposition players slid into the final third. Making a mistake. Today’s guest let the home side latch onto a loose ball. Bobbling into the box, before scuffing a shot, in embarrassing fashion. With the travelling team causing problems from a free kick. Shepherds bush were forced to smash home a header. Landing in the keepers’ hands, soaking up the pressure. Slowing down the speed of the play. Popping passes around the pitch Kensington got an opportunity. Opening up space, curling a shot around the post. Up the other end. The host had a chance. Awful touch taking it miles out of play. Creating a goal kick to resume the game. Shortly followed by the first goal of the day, scored by Shepherds Bush. Showing great determination. The home sides wide man worked hard to wonder his way into the area. Spinning around, searching for a shot, blocked by the backline. Putting in a pinpoint corner. The guest came close to getting a goal. Arriving in the area, attacked awfully. Ended up behind the net.

Getting the second half underway. The guest got the opening opportunity of the period. Coming into the final third, soon after kick off. Stopped by the keepers’ feet following a shot from six yards. Making a substitution. Kensington Dragons sparked an interesting event. The oncoming player putting on a bib, before making his way onto the pitch. Reversing standard procedures. Skying a shot, Shepherds Bush sent their first chance high and wide. Running through on goal. The visitors had remarkable space to roam, if not for a slip by the player, which gave away possession. Back and forth football prevented either team doing anything of note. Neither able to reach further than the centre circle, without losing control of the ball. Not long later. Dragging the host around the ground, Dragons dominated once more. Passing in impressive manners. Managing to play football in the style they set out to. Brilliantly batting in a cross, Shepherds Bush came forward. Finding an advancing attacker. Lifting the ball over the keeper’s head and converting at the other side. Launching a long pass. The home team saw another chance. Skipping through the backline, they couldn’t put the ball into the net. A horrific touch by Kensington’s keeper almost handed their opposition a third. Smashing an effort into the crossbar, Dragons could not believe their luck. However, this seemed to spark an amazing period of play for the travelling team. Scoring twice in quick succession. Crossing in from the corner of the pitch, a finish at the back post, before a second doubled their tally in similar circumstances. Grabbing a winner late on. Today’s host scored an excellent finish. Weaving into the final third, finding space between centre backs to shoot. The home side had the ball in the net for a fourth. But offside call from the official ended celebrations early.
