Battered by Barnet!

For their final pre-season friendly Harrow Borough welcomed Conference side Barnet to Earlsmead Stadium. Kicking off at 19:30 both sides went into this fixture hopeful of walking away with the Harrow cup, which used to be played out with more sides in years gone by. Also coming to the ground for this fixture was new Bee’s manager Harry Kewell who has featured for both Leeds and Australia in his career. Before this game the host beat Wingate and Finchley on Saturday, thanks to goals from prolific forward James Ewington. A wonderful signing. Our opposition had drawn with Tottenham Hotspur u23s that day.

Within the first minute of the game Barnet found the net. A long throw in was met in the box giving the Bees a lead early on. Mason Bloomfield opening the scoring for the evening. Harrow Borough seemed to play well after that, keeping chances on their goal low. New signings could be seen in the line-up allowing fans to view the squad ahead of Saturdays league opener. However, departures could be noticed to, Jordan Ireland and Sam Gubbins will prove to be vital losses for the club. Going into the break the Bees were still ahead here at Earlsmead Stadium. Borough played well against higher opponents once more. Strong all round, one mistake separates the two sides. Mason Bloomfield being the only person to find the net so far.

As soon as the players came out for the second period Barnet got their second, scoring within a minute again. What a coincidence. This goal was a wonderful strike pleasing the travelling supporters. Ephron’s shot the Ball which smacked the roof of the bar before finding the net past the host keeper. Barnet’s third goal of the evening was thanks to centre half Ben Nugent who sent a lovely chip over red’s keeper. Three nil up for the conference side. Another goal for the guest came after that, this time a trialist finding the back of the net as a result of a whipped cross that was perfectly given to him. On the volley too! No way back now.

In conclusion Harrow borough were well and truly beaten after a promising first half. Following the break, it all went downhill at Earlsmead, not great viewing days before the league starts. Embarrassing is an understatement. Our guest Barnet clearly showed their ability in these forty-five periods. Next up for the borough is a home fixture against Yate Town. Thank you to Barnet, and their supporters for coming down tonight. It was lovely to have you. Wishing you well for the upcoming season, and the future. Good luck Bees!
