Backing bluebirds!

On Friday afternoon Cardiff City under 23s made the journey to Hertfordshire. Watford fc were their host, with the game taking place at Vicarage Road. Home of the hornets first team. Leaving me as the only supporter backing the bluebirds, in what was a very poor attendance. Despite Watford season ticket holders being offered free entry.

The match started in the home team’s favour. Quickly identifying a weakness in their opposition fullback, the young hornets targeted the player. Weaving runs around him allowed for them to find space inside the box. Having chance after chance. Only being kept out by the keeper, who started with a brilliant performance. Contrasting that of the defensive line in front of him. Taking the lead, Cardiff City found the goal on fifteen minutes. James Crole put a shot away from close range. Scoring against the run of play. Looking to level the game Watford increased momentum. Really challenging bluebirds throughout the field, causing tiredness to show in wet conditions.

At the break Cardiff City had the advantage. Shockingly, having been second best to every ball. Fewer shots and more saves did not lead to good reading for supports for the South Wales club. When play resumed the visitors looked much improved. Defensively the shape was more organised, and passing was cleaner. Doubling the lead after two minutes. Jack Leahy finished off a simple opportunity, from inside the box. Really turning the game around. One two lifted the possession up the field, creating chances. Wayward shots stopping the score line becoming embarrassing. Missing the post, bluebirds could have seen five more goals in the second half. Fantastic build up from midfield general Sam Bowen leading by example

In conclusion the weather ruined what was a good day. Cardiff City once more showed great talent, demonstrating why players are finding opportunities in the first team. Rubin Colwil and Isaak Davies the stand out examples. Brilliant experience being a bluebird’s fan. Something I hope to do more in the future….
