Back against Billericay!

After last week’s disappointing result against Charlton Athletic development, QPR Women were back playing. At a real football ground that admits fans. Welcoming Billericay Women to the Powerday for the second time the host looked to get back to winning ways. Before this match our visitors beat Kent United, in a convincing three nil victory. Setting up this Fa cup encounter to be a close one as people thought.

Getting this second-round tie going was an early chance for Billericay. May came close to opening the scoring this afternoon, as she found the side netting. Warning signs are out for the host. It was May who ended up finding the first goal. Six minutes in the player got on the end of a pass from her teammate, before slotting it away. Continuing their positive play, the guest had a long-range effort in the eleventh minute which was caught by Mya. Having their first chance of the game, QPR broke away through Erin Pope. Turning away from her marker the midfield got a shot off. Deflected wide. Following the corner, our visitors picked up the pace again. Putting pressure on the R’s twenty-five minutes in. Coming very close to a second Kasha petit batted the ball of the line twenty-seven minutes in. standing firm in the dying minutes of the initial period Billericay held their lead. Melanie hall coming closest for QPR Women, before they rattled the post. QPR did their very best, but it just wasn’t enough.

Harsh score line at the break. R’s have been hard done by, having played well in the opening forty-five. Lucky goal separating the teams. Possibility of reviving this match still was there. Starting as they ended Melanie Hall was testing the travelling keeper. Forcing the show stopper into a fantastic save, as the home team urged for an equaliser. Twice in a matter of minutes the Rs came close. None more so than the effort that was tipped over the bar fifty-three minutes in. Scrambling inside the box Billericay cleared the threat of a leveller on the seventieth minutes, as they looked to be falling apart as the match went on. Ellie Jeffkins got the second goal of the fixture eighty-six minutes in, as she made the most out of a delivered free kick. However, scoring did not stop there. A minute later Rebeca May get her second of the tie. Slotting the ball away to increase the lead, and seal the game. Mission impossible for the West London outfit to score three in as many minutes. Sadly they didn’t manage to defy the odds.

In conclusion Billericay came to hanwell on fine form, with a top team. Defiantly understandable as to why they are doing well. Very good from start to finish. But three nil was a harsh result it could be said. QPR Women created chances, but lacked the final touch. Move on to next week as they say.
