Austin at the death!

A week on from their dramatic cup win against Rotherham, Queens Park Rangers were back in action. West Brom being the visitors to W12 this time round. Since their last fixture at Loftus Road the R’s have picked up six points on the road. Getting narrow wins over Birmingham and Bristol city. Winless since the start of December, our guest are on a bad run. Even losing away to Derby County.

A fiery beginning to the match, but neither team making anything of it. Promotion places within touching distance for both sides. Phillips’s chance twenty minutes in as close as anyone got. QPR being held at home by their visitors. Who sent a shot goal bound from twenty yards, right into the hands of Marshall. West brom just edging it after thirty minutes.

Goalless at the break. West Brom the better side so far, coming closer to scoring. New R’s signing Marshall being put to work. QPR only manging a rare opportunity at goal. Improving after half time, the host had an early chance. Gray getting the ball into the net. Foul in the build-up ruling it off, to the disappointment of the West London crowd. Coming close two minutes later Dykes put an effort over. Fifty minutes played before QPR woke up fully. Willock pressed the baggies back line fifty-eight minutes in, but Button bats his shot away. Dramatic save leading to a counter attack for West Brom. Luckily, Barbet slides in to block the advancing player. Taking control of the tie, the baggies had another chance. Livermore this time round. A narrow escape followed. Sixty-eight minutes in Grants cross rolled under Marshall, and stayed on in front of the line. To the relief of QPR players. Tight margins going their way. Proving to be the last piece of action, before a lengthy stoppage. Barbet needing medical assistance after a collision. Player making his way back on with a bandage firmly wrapped around his head. Seeing out the rest of the match. As the game drew to a close supporters started to accept a point, However Austin had other ideas. Heading home Willocks cross at the back post. Against his former club. Getting Loftus Road bouncing.

In conclusion this afternoon’s affair was very end to end. West Brom performed well, and made it a difficult fixture for their host. Who narrowly won with a minute to go. Leading to tension outside of the ground come full time.
