Astonashing afternoon in Ascot.

With October coming to an end. Today’s adventure took me to just outside Windsor. Ascot United the host, the match being played at the Racecourse ground. Which is famously in the middle of the iconic Ascot racecourse track. A clear view of the main stand available from behind one of the goals. Holyport the visitors for a combined counties contest.

Starting this afternoon’s affair was a kick off for the host. Heading straight out for a throw, which needed a second attempt. After being hit out of play again. Making their way down the left-hand side. Today’s visitors saw an early attack, which was counter attacked. Brining a clearance. Creating the first chance. Brendan Matthews managed to make contact within the six-yard box. Winning a corner. An intrusive attempt to invade the wing, worked out in Ascot’s favour. Ending up at the feet of Brendan’s Matthews. As he tapped the ball past the post mid trip. Making a superb save. Holyport’s shot stopper tipped one away, the edge of his fingers getting to the ball. Before a second save stopped a goal. Shortly followed with a smacked effort clanging off the crossbar. Being kept away, Brendan Matthews had both his hands held, whilst heading into the box. A terrible throw in from the visitors ventured over the advancing player’s position. Going out for a goal kick. An in-swinging Ascot corner created problem. Block after block saw the ball batted away, before a handful handed the host a penalty. Failing to take the lead. Opening their opportunities. Holyport had their first real chances, running it down the wing. Unable to find a teammate in the middle of the area. Staying strong. Ascot asserted their dominance. Taking the lead, with a terrific header. Brendan Matthews managing to make a gap. Getting on the end of a creative cross. A brave display drove the ball forward from the sides secondary striker. Opportunity ending, after a backheel went wide. Splendidly sliding in, the host saw a chance to get through. Narrowly missing the man. Giving away a throw.

Getting the second half underway. Ascot attacked within a minute. Cross deep into the guest box, bobbling past an outstretched leg. Threading a through ball. The host had another go shortly after. Last minute defending, deflecting away from danger. Superb sliding challenges created a flurry of chances following this. Inches away, the lead deserving to be doubled. Slipping a shoulder into the ball, Ascot were seconds away from scoring again. Bringing the game to a halt. A fan collapsed behind the goal. Causing concern, as assistance sprinted over. Supporters having to be cleared from the area. Play picking up with a pinpoint cross for Ascot Untied to use as their next opportunity. Letting one fly, Brendan Matthews lashed an effort. Flying over the bar. Weaving around the box, the visitors couldn’t break a way through. Dragging it wide just for a strong hit to send the ball out of play. As the game was becoming boring, the ball hit the net. However, it was an additional one along the side of the pitch. After a clearance went over the railing and rifles into the goal. Shooting from a free kick. A lobbed ball landed on a host head, quickly caught by the keeper. Who went on to fumbled the proceeding play. Recovering reliably. Seeing out the fixture. A skilful run from the home sides winger came. Sending his effort wayward, from a slanted angle. A penultimate effort edging onto the post. One two passing, picking out space. Before full time. Both teams found a spell for a brawl. All players involved, including backing off the bench. Physios required to deal with the physical results of the original incident. Two red cards a treat for their actions. As the match carried on, Ascot United kept trying. Despite the game going on much longer than expected. Picking out a pocket of the net. Having found miles of space to slot it home.
