Having seen Spurs Women at the Hive stadium last night I headed to their North London rivals this evening. Arsenal Women took on Hoffenheim Ladies at Meadow Park, home of Borehamwood Fc. Kicking off another champions league fixture the gunners hoped to have better fortune this time round. Barcelona beating them in their last outing. Since the match at the Johan Cruyff arena the host have had a victory against Everton, cementing their lead at the top of the league table. On the other hand, Hoffenheim were defeated by Bayern Munich.
Arsenal Women started the game on the front foot. Their guest was extremely drilled from kick off, and protected the ball well. Safe passing was a theme from the German side. Kim Little opened the scoring in the twentieth minute, converting a penalty with calmness. After going ahead, the gunners looked more inspired. Beth Mead on the flank time and time again, getting past her marker more times than not. Electric football from the host. Tobin Heath got the home sides second of the match. From the left-hand side Arsenal crossed the ball in, before the player smashed it into the net. A goal on the forty fifth minute is a perfect way to go into half time.
Battling on after leading at the break Arsenal continued their fine form in the second half. Miedema scored the north London sides third, securing the win for the gunners. A simple finish applied to a rebounded effort. Pressure continued on the visitors as Arsenal pushed for more in front of a strong crowd. Red’s goalkeeper Manu was performing impressively between the sticks. Making a highlight reel save in the seventieth minute Late on in this match Leah Williamson added a fourth, bullet header from a corner in the eighty fifth minute. Home supporters rocking the place for the remainder of the game.
In conclusion Arsenal Women convincingly beat their opponents. Apart from being well drilled Hoffenheim did not offer anything in this game, showing once more how simple it is for the gunners to dispatch teams. Miedma performed a level above the rest of the players on the pitch this evening. Thank you to Boreham Wood for their hospitality this evening.
