After many months away from fixtures, Harrow fans were once more allowed to support their team from the stands. Staines Town were the host on Tuesday evening as we looked to prepare for the upcoming league and cup seasons. Being played at an earlier kick off time of 7pm many supporters were not able to make the trip, as a result of the game being announced at little notice. The host set a steep £10 entrance fee on the event putting many spectators off the trip, some even classing it as a training session.
In the early exchanges of the evening, Harrow Borough looked the significantly better side, controlling the game extremely well and creating chances for themselves. Tricky winger Dernell Wynter took the game by storm ripping apart the Swans defence. However, this did not amount to anything. The biggest cheer in the first period came from a heavily over hit clearance by a swan’s defender which was caught by a spectator in the main stand. Not long after, Staines took the lead in the game following a horrible mistake from the Reds keeper who saw the ball lobbed over his head and into the net due to him coming too far out of his area. Right before half time Harrow found a way back into this friendly, thanks to a well driven shot that ended up in the corner of the net.
After the short half time break Harrow Borough came out all guns blazing, tearing Staines apart from the very beginning of the second period. Goals flying in quick succession without reply. One person who helped the reds was Matthews who came on as a substitution during this demolition, even scoring for himself. A simple shot from not far out helped the visitors on their way to a confident 5-1 victory against lower league opposition. Dernell Wynter also grabbed himself a goal this evening putting the chance of a home comeback to zero.
In conclusion Harrow Borough left with a 5-1 win against Staines, a truly deserved result but it could have been more! Overall a confident performance from the lads. Brilliant all round, showing how much hard work and dedication manager Steve Baker has put into making this team ready for another season. A difficult one at that.
