A Sue special!

Queens Park Rangers women returned to action this Sunday afternoon. Following a two-week break, the R’s faced off against Cambridge City. Who they drew two all with back in September. Goals coming from Erin Pope and Brogan Moore. Going into this match, QPR have been on a four-game winning streak. Conceding just the once during that period. Scoring eight times.

Cambridge City had the opening chance of this afternoon’s affair. Running through on goal, they saw Katie McClean tip it over the bar. Coming close for the R’s was Vicky Grieves. Just unable to send a shot towards goal, after controlling a delivered corner. From attack to defence, Vicky cleared the ball of the line. Keeping the score goalless when Katie McClean was rounded. However, the visitors managed to find a goal only a few movements later. Scoring in twenty second minute. Making the most of a driven through ball. Finding space, before shooting into the net. Trying to find an equaliser, Kasha Petit put in a cross. Receiving the ball from the right-side Hall fired into the keepers’ hands. Her second attempt going just wide of the post as we approached half time.

Behind at the break QPR needed to improve. Cambridge narrowly ahead, in a mostly dull first period. A big second half was set to happen. Starting with a bang, the host hit the post within two minutes of restarting. Ellie Searle made a fantastic run through the Cambridge City team. Keeper pushing her effort just onto the post. Shortly after, Kumaning made an instant impact. Just missing the goal as her first shot went over the bar. Having just come on for Katie Akerman. Brogan Moore then saw a shot tipped narrowly wide of the left-hand post. Following up that, Brogan Moore smashed the ball against the crossbar. Letting a shot fly from long range. Also edging the R’s ever closer, Alice Curr hit the side netting. Leaving the home side behind going into injury time. Rangers finally got the goal they deserved three minutes later. Sue Kumaning the scorer. Smashing in a shot from twenty yards out, leading to the loudest cheer of the season.

In conclusion QPR were unfortunate not to take three points. Having been the better team in the second half, the R’s should have scored plenty of goals. The keeper being the only reason they didn’t. Cambridge City extremely lucky to collect two points from fixtures against the West London outfit this season.
