A special season opener!

Kicking off their league season at home against Stevenage Women, Queens Park Rangers Women welcomed today’s opponents to the Powerday stadium. The first of many this year. Located within a ten-minute walk of Perivale station the R’s new ground is very accessible to both home and away supporters. Former QPR player Andie Dickens returns to West London to take on her previous side. Before this crucial fixture the host picked up an away win against Chichester and Selsey Ladies, thanks to a goal from recent addition Alice Curr. A wonderful goal at that. Also joining the squad for this exciting campaign is Brogan Moore and Lauren Jordinson.

QPR Women looked electric from the very start of this fixture. Each member of the starting line-up began the game all guns blazing, providing an Incredibly enjoyable opening to the league season. Captain Vicky Grieves lead the team perfectly from the back giving support to the new additions. Once more Sue Kumaning controlled everything that went through the midfield preventing our guest having any chances in the early period. Stevie Quashies side set out in a 352 this afternoon, and showed that many hours of hard work has gone into the preparation for this game. In this match the R’s used to amazing speed of Ellie Searle to bomb down the field and put chances in. from minute one the former oxford united player created opportunities for the West London side to take the lead. Kicking off the scoring at their new home was Queens Park Rangers Women. An excellent passage of play worked out for the R’s, from which Alice Curr scored the first of the afternoon on her competitive debut. This finish was a lovely lofted shot to break the deadlock! Heading into the break QPR Women were comfortably in front. It should have been more. A Well-deserved lead by the girls, proud of them all.

After the break Sue Kumaning puts us two ahead at Hanwell Town’s Powerday Stadium, picking up the ball out wide before cutting in and hitting it over the keeper’s head. What a signing she has proved to be. Demi Edwards was next to slot home for the host, increasing the lead. Fantastic spirit in the squad. Danielle scored the fourth goal for the R’s thanks to a directly hit free kick. What a strike! No way back for guest, and double digits aim for the Rs supporters. The Rs continued their scoring with new addition Brogan Moore getting her first from close range. The team have been impressive! Last person to score in our league opener was QPR Women again, second goal of the afternoon for Demi Edwards. A wonderful strike over the keepers head as seen a few times today.

In conclusion a perfect start to a new season after being promoted. Queens Park Rangers Women should be proud of themselves tonight. Special mention to Stevie and his team for all their hard work leading up to this game, it would not have been possible without all of you. R’s fans can go home over the moon. We are top of the league! Thank you to the team for taking time to sign the programme for me, and to Hanwell Town for having us this evening. This could be a special year. On to Kent United next week. Are we going up?
