A little too late...

As we approached the final fixtures of the season, Merthyr Town visited Holloways Park. Taking on Beaconsfield in the southern league. Going into the game, the host scored three out of eight goals in their last outing. When they saw a home defeat to Tiverton.

The visitors started this tie in a positive manner. Finding the net on thirteen minutes. Kieron Evans applying the finishing touch at the back post, after a looping cross was delivered. The next opportunity fell to Beaconsfield. Forcing Jaime Cogman into a double save, as we got a reached twenty minutes gone. Before Merthyr added a second, through Hutson on the half hour mark. Following an impressive run by Jack Evans. Who found Curtis Hutson for a strike into the top corner. Having seen back-to-back shots rebound of defenders. Replying quickly, the home side pulled one back. Scoring as the clock struck thirty-four minutes. Seeing out the first period with a narrow margin.

When play resumed, Hutson got his second of the affair. Cutting in at the far corner. Leaving a flying effort to increase the lead on fifty-five minutes. With his back to goal Lewis Powell added a fourth. Spinning his marker, the player created space. Allowing a simple finish past the keeper. Having initially created the movement. Two more strikes from the host came as the game ran its course. Beaconsfield pulling the score to a single goal difference. A cross goal shot from Nathan minas on seventy-six minutes. Hitting it from an awkward angle, he found a gap to convert. A third for the Rams followed. Coming from Matty Harriet. rolling the ball past Jaime Cogman, as the slow attempt crept in. Ending action for today as the ball struck the net for the final time on ninety minutes.

In conclusion Merthyr’s late resurgence proved what could have been. Improving dramatically since a change in management, with very few games left. Sealing relegation for the once welsh great.
