Brunel University Sport Park was today’s venue. Ashford Town hosting Harrow Borough, as both teams made final preparations. The league season now only a week away. Leaving the teams eager for an interesting campaign.
Starting this afternoon’s sport park affair was Ashford Town. Before Harrow gained possession for the first time, sending a long ball up the field. Leading to an early throw in. Shortly followed by a cross, which saw Charlie Mitchel fouled. Very close to the touchline. Winning a free kick. Going out for a goa kick, as it made its way through the box. Not long later James Ewington broke the deadlock. Giving Harrow a lead, making the most of a low diagonal pass, scoring at the far post. Sideways movement made Ashford’s opportunity. Sam Adenola sliding tackle cutting out danger, deep in the borough final third. A throw in a consequence result. Proceeded by an injury for the host, which saw the player needing attention from his physio. Driving in at speed, James Ewington opened up space in the box. Sliding a pass across the area for a teammate to miss the target. The ball flying high and wide over the bar. Poor decision making on a pass handed the home side a chance. Preddie putting the ball at his keepers’ feet, despite him being unprepared. Clipping his clearance straight into an advancing attacker. Sam Adenola coming to the rescue for the reds. Terrifically touching down a long ball, George Moore guided Charlie Mitchell through on goal. Missing the target narrowly. Starting a period of failed opportunities. Causing conflict between visiting players, clearly heard by spectators. Trying again soon after. Ewington failing to find the net this time. Earning a corner for his efforts. Twisting and turning in midfield Sam Adenola disposed his opponent. Switching the play, landing to George Moore. Powerfully putting a shot wide of the post. Adding another James Ewington had his second of the day, assisted by Charlie Mitchel. Identical to his first goal. An outstretched leg averted danger for the guest. James Taylor fantastically finding a tackle, aiding a counter attack. Which moved Harrow further up the field. Brilliantly, Billy Leonard built tempo. Coming to nothing. Completing his hattrick before the break, James Ewington took the tally up to three. Simple pass by Charlie Mitchel once more. Having taken the team goal bound.
Pinging a pass, the visitors got the second period underway. Having the first chance of the half. Not able to make it count, as the Ashford Back line become stronger. Growing as the game went on. Building more and more momentum, to the surprise of all. Holding up play. James Ewington sent a pass wide, lumped away by the host defender. Giving Ashford a breakaway on goal. Ahmet Billar bulldozing the forward, as he prevented any more movement. From a corner, Harrow added a fourth. Rocky Mosses finishing off the chance. Players starting to tire, in a well contested fixture. Pulling one back. Ashford converted from inside the box. Slotting into the middle of the net, past a diving keeper. Increasing the margin to secure the win. The Earlsmead outfit scored a fifth, this time through Billy Leonard.
