Hounslow Women are a football club competing in the FA Women’s National League South Division. Currently playing their home matches at Hanworth Villa, the Tridents have been operating in their current form since June 2018. Following a decision from Queens Park Rangers to form a new women’s side. Who began life in the London and South East Women’s Regional Football League. Their first season under the QPR umbrella being the 2019/20 campaign. This Led to a rebrand for the current club with immediate effect, as they looked to continue playing in the National league.
Pre-season training commenced on the 7th of July 2019 at Harrow School Sports Club for the newly branded side. Hounslow Women invited potential players to attend the session, in hopes of making it into the squad ahead of the new season. Before a trialist match took place a week later. Preparing the club for their first match under the new name. When they travelled to the Brache Training ground, taking on Luton Town Ladies at 2pm. Leading up to their first competitive game of the National league calendar, where they hosted Yeovil Town at Uxbridge FC. After plans to move the club to the home of Hounslow FC fell through. They Went on to lose the game nine nil after a dominant performance from the visitors. Away defeats to Crawley Wasps and Portsmouth Women followed. Leaving the West London based outfit having conceded twenty-one goals in their first three games, without finding the net themselves. Which they did through Sydney Hinchcliffe, her strike from the edge of the box levelling the score in their fourth game against MK Dons. Handing Hounslow Women a point. Midweek action continued their run of matches, as they were beaten by six goals to nil against Watford. Four days later saw another loss at the hands of Plymouth. Who found the net eight times against their opponents. Taking a break from league action the Tridents were drawn against the new Queens Park Rangers women’s side in the capital women’s cup. The 17th of November 2019 being the decided date for the fixture, which was set to take place at the R’s training ground. However, the match was cancelled. Going on record as a home walkover. Leaving QPR Women progressing into the next round of the cup. Only fourteen day later Hounslow Women were back playing cup football. Taking on Cardiff City Ladies, in the second round of the women’s FA Cup. Ahead of the game, Manager Martino Chevannes spoke to BBC Sport journalist Tom Garry. Interestingly discussing how his Hounslow side had a connection to the Hounslow Harries from the vastly popular film, bend it like Beckham. With his role in the movie being to find players to fill out both sides, leading to a few familiar faces being on set alongside him during production. Back on the pitch, Hounslow Women were beaten by six goals to nil. Playing the match with only ten players available. After a rampant showing from the visitors knocked them out of the cup. Awarding the away side, a home match against Southampton in the next round. Going on to lose narrowly by two goals to one. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a decision to make the season null and void was reached. With Hounslow sitting eleventh, out of twelve teams in the table. Having picked up three points from fourteen games, A run which saw draws against Chichester City, Keynsham Town and Milton Keynes Dons being the highlights between eleven losses. Pre-season soon came around in preparation for the next campaign. Once again Hounslow Women took to social media asking for those interested in joining the squad to register.
A month before a new crest was revealed, which saw the club change their colours to black and red. In addition to a new Trident taking centre place. Opting for a circle badge, instead of the previously used shield. Showing similarities to the QPR image they were trying to move away from. Along with a new logo, Hounslow Women found themselves a new ground. Moving on successfully to Tithe Farm. Home of Rayners Lane. Having previously tried and failed to move on from Honeycroft, The newly renovated venue hosted their opening match in the 2020/21 national league season. Crawley Wasps the visitors on the 20th of September 2020. Eventually going on to lose by five goals to nil. Their following two matches saw the tridents concede ten goals, against Gillingham and Watford. Before the season was cancelled for a second time the Tridents were on the end of heavy losses to a handful of teams. Chichester and Selsey and Oxford United both reached seven nil wins in ninety minutes. Totalling forty-two goals conceded in eighty games without reply. Leaving Hounslow bottom of the league.
Hoping for luck to strike on the third attempt, Hounslow Women prepared for the beginning of the 2021/21 season. As the club looked to complete their first campaign since rebranding from QPR Ladies to their current identity. This time playing their home games out of Rectory Meadow, home of Hanworth Villa. Opening the competition this time round, Ipswich Town Women were the visitors. Walking away with a six-nil victory on match day one of the campaign. Natasha Thomas scoring her 100th goal for the club in an emphatic win. August also included an improved performance away to Gillingham. The Tridents only lost by a margin of two goals, on their visit to Kent. Before a narrow defeat at home to London Bees wrapped up the month. Allowing Hounslow Women supporters to be excited for upcoming fixtures, which saw them host three teams based on the south coast. Starting September’s contests was Southampton. The Saints made the journey to London looking to continue their fine form, having been unbeaten in their previous four outings. A demolition of Gillingham a week earlier setting this match up to be an interesting affair. However, Hounslow Women returned to poor showings in this tie. Matching the nine-nil loss suffered by the Kent club only seven days prior. Bournemouth were next to visit Hanworth Villa. Drawing Hounslow in the FA WNL Plate Cup handed the guests a day out in London. Helen Corbin ensured they progressed to the next round, scoring after only eight minutes. Earning a rest on the bench as she made way for Kelly – Marie Fripp on sixty minutes. A two-week break followed, giving the host a chance to prepare for their next game. When Portsmouth were the visitors to West London. Starting poorly, Hounslow were behind after two minutes. Danielle Lane opening scoring. Seeing five more fly into the net before the referee blew for half time. On route to Pompey finding the goal a further five times in the proceeding forty-five minutes. Danielle Lane completed her hat-trick, before she was matched by Samantha Quayle on three goals each. Both players being subbed off on eighty minutes. Fortunately, results improved slightly for Hounslow. Their biggest margin in October was a four-nil defeat to Cardiff City ladies. Still without scoring themselves. Finally breaking that record, Shakira Waithe tapped home against Worthing FC. Giving her team an equaliser after going one down. Setting up the club for their first victory since leaving the QPR Ladies identity. With the next round in the FA Cup secured, Hounslow Women turned their attention to the county cup. Taking on Denham United, away from home. A one all draw in normal time left the game to be decided on penalties. Hounslow won from spot kicks for the second time in two weeks. Since then, the Tridents are yet to win another game. Failing to score in seven outings.
