England 4-0 Andorra!

Following England’s fantastic run in the Euros last summer they returned to Wembley for a home fixture against Andorra. This match being a world cup qualifier, in the build-up to the tournament being held in Qatar. A host country fans across the world disagree with. Days before this match the three lions picked up a convincing win against Hungary. With the coronavirus pandemic still affecting flights many supporters were unable to attend, leaving a handful of travelling fans sitting in home stands. Managing to out sing the hosts fans. Sadly, the impressive victory was tarnished by the racist incidents that occurred that evening. Will UEFA take action against discrimination? Personally, I have no trust in the organisation.

Once the welcome party had celebrated their Herod return it was time to kick off. Players took the knee and were met with applause from all around the ground. England looked strong from minute one, keeping the ball in the Andorra half constantly. Chance after chance the Three lions attacked the visitor’s goal. Shots came from a range of players, keen to open the scoring this afternoon. Jesse Lingard broke the deadlock after breaking through the pitch. Just like his fantastic season for club the wide man excelled for country. Cheers erupted! With the host one up the atmosphere kept building, but not as great as it should have been for this match. Block 109 didn’t seem at the races. Our guest struggled to break the England strong hold, resorting to a packed defensive line. Have to feel for the keeper. No Andorra fans were granted admission thus making it even harder for the opposition to get some tempo going. The players on the pitch looked positive throughout, however didn’t show anything special. For this game Southgate started a line up containing many defensive minded players.

In the second half the three lions came out slowly, not much action in the opening exchanges. Fans being to grow more agitated. Substitutions warming up provided the home supporters with enjoyment, personally, I was happy to see Raheem Sterling. Who didn’t come on. Harry Kane made his way onto the pitch, providing fans and players a boost. Prolific for club and country! The Spurs man managed to double the lead in west London, converting from the spot. A well-deserved penalty. Next up to find the net was Jesse Lingard, bagging his second of the afternoon. Would be a perfect signing for Arsenal. From goal scorer to assist maker Lingard set up Saka for his goal. England’s fourth. Bringing it in from a corner before finding the gunners main man in close range, the biggest roar of the game. A stadium united behind the young land.

In conclusion a convincing win from a not great performance. Squad players are not good enough to play a full game, as demonstrated today. Star players needed to rescue a win. Kane coming on from the bench lifted the team spirit. Disappointed in the fan’s atmosphere today overall, could have done far more. Even though it’s Andorra. Hopefully we manage to get back to our best for the away leg. Special mention to the security at Wembley this afternoon, awful beyond belief. Using excessive force on fans before and after the game. Not to mention the wait times around the ground! Senseless planning made attending the fixture more difficult. New company needed…
